Excluding coverage of the horse race and looking only at policy issues, 60% of statements about Romney from female newsmakers not working for a campaign concern Social Issues (abortion, gay marriage, women’s rights, etc.) and 60% of these are negative. Overall, 36% of statements about Romney from female newsmakers are negative to Romney with the topic of Social Issues.

Many women don’t feel comfortable with Romney as President due to his stances on women’s rights. In the polls, Romney lags far behind Obama for the women’s vote. Also, the criticism of Ann Romney by Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen was amplified by print, television and radio media, causing an explosion of dialogue from females on women’s role in society.
