When discussing the economy, Romney and his campaign staff emphasize the failures of Barack Obama as evidence by the frequent use of the words “president” and “Obama”. Other negative words such as “unemployment”, “failed” and “lost” were used very frequently. The overwhelming use of negative words shows how the Romney’s campaign strategy is to criticize Obama’s failures rather than sell Romney’s ability to fix the economy.
Contrary to the Romney campaign word cloud, the Obama campaign doesn’t have a few words that overwhelm the cloud. The Obama campaign’s focus on the middle class is evidenced by their frequent use of the words “middle”, “class”, “fair”, “people” and “everybody”. They also have a few positive words that show their strategy to send the message that the economy is improving. The words “created”, “new” and “better” exemplify this positive strategy.
