Citizen Newsmakers Most Positive on Obama’s Stance on Social Issues
Since Santorum dropped out of the race on April 10, statements from citizen newsmakers about Obama have concerned his personality and background (Character) more than other issues. 23% of statements from citizen newsmakers since the general election began have been about that topic, with 48% of them being negative to Obama. In comparison to Romney, Obama is faring much better. While only 29% of citizen statements about Romney’s character were negative in the past month, discussion of his Character consumed over 50% of total citizen statements about him versus Obama’s 23%. See 4thEstate’s post on “Post 1 Date” called “Post 1 Title” for more on Romney’s sentiment among citizens.
On Social Issues, coverage from citizen newsmakers has been mostly positive toward Obama. Over 22% of statements about Obama have been about Social Issues, largely driven by his endorsement of gay marriage. Of those statements, 52% have been positive.
